Decayed floor timbers being replaced with new pre-treated joists

Wet and dry rot treatment in North Shields and North Tyneside

Diagnosing wet rot or dry rot, removing decayed timber, replacement and treatment.

Understanding wet and dry rot treatment

Wet rot and dry rot are both fungal decay caused by timber staying damp for too long, but they behave very differently. Wet rot stays where the moisture is. Dry rot can spread through masonry to reach sound timber elsewhere in the building. We confirm which one you have, find the source of the moisture, cut out the decayed timber and replace and treat it so the problem does not come back.

Find the cause, then the extent

Rot only stops when the timber dries out, so the moisture source is dealt with first.

  1. 01

    Diagnosis

We identify whether the decay is wet rot or dry rot and take moisture readings in timber and masonry.

  2. 02

    Opening up

Affected areas are opened up so the full extent of the decay is known before anything is priced.

  3. 03

    Removal and treatment

Decayed timber is cut out and surrounding timber and masonry is treated where needed.

  4. 04

    Replacement

New pre-treated timber is fitted and the area made good, with advice on keeping it dry.
